Flying Ant Infestations in Atherton, Leigh and Tyldesley.
Flying ants are the dread of many folk in summer months leaving many people to hate the summer and the annual flying ants invasion which they realise the summer will herald
Only the unfortunates who have suffered it will know the true effects of flying ants in their homes.
Having an infestation of ordinary wingless ants is bad enough but when they go through their annual mating phase the position can become unthinkable.
Ants will form colonies under the floors and in the wall cavities of our houses and these colonies will continue for many years if left untreated becoming progressively more annoying every year.
Our houses are warm and dry and make the perfect places for a thriving ant colony; even solid asphalt floor is not a problem to ants.
Our central heating systems keeps their metabolism even in winter and my earliest ant call-out was on my birthday, which falls in January!
Ants like a sandy soil and there are plenty areas in Lancashire, Cheshire and Manchester which have more ant callouts than most, Southport, Blackpool, Bolton, Sale & Altrincham come to mind as hot ant properties.
Unfortunately it is when they are in their mating period that they are most annoying. Here in Lancashire, Cheshire and Manchester this tends to be pretty regularly around the middle to end of July.
Ants mate on the wing and sometime around mid-summer the colony produces winged immature Queens and winged males which in nature would fly off and mate on the wing. Many thousands of these winged ants are produced by each and nests tend to time their production so that they mate with ants from other nests.
Normally this process starts after a couple of days of hot, dry weather and will typically continue for about a week or so although smaller releases will continue throughout most of the summer.
Unfortunately when the nest is built under the floor of the property the results can be horrifying, literally thousands of winged ants are released into the lower rooms, aiming for windows as they make for the light.
This can be very distressing for some people leading to extreme emotional distress to the degree that people learn to dread the summertime and have actually left their house to escape the plague of ants which they know will come each summer.
The poor summers of the last three years have meant that ant problems were down on earlier but ants seem to have a way of catching up and 2010 looks set to be a particularly good year for them.
Many people who have this problem try for DIY solutions with powders from DIY shops etc but mostly these efforts are doomed to failure as they are not getting to the heart of the infestation which is the colony itself, securely hidding safely in the cavity wall or under the floor.
Luckily for most people the solution is at hand.
At Harrier Pest Control (subject to site survey) we are able to remedy this problem and issue an extendable three year guarantee.
The process which is carried out mostly from the exterior of the dwelling, is perfectly safe for animals and children and produces no smell, involves drilling small holes into the cavity walls of the property, not unlike a damp-proof course injection and blowing a long lasting insecticide into the cavity wall under pressure.
This forms an impenetrable barrier across which the ants cannot go and together with a precautionary spray of the inside (if deemed necessary) will slowly bring the infestation under control.
The holes, which are only 8mm in diameter remain open so it is an easy matter of topping up the wall cavities every three years to extend the period of the guarantee in 3 year periods.
This treatment is best carried out in the early spring however it can be done all year round.
As a very limited time offer before our busy period begins we are offering 25 percent off the usual price until May 30 2010. Whilst we usually cover the whole of Lancashire, Cheshire and Greater Manchester, we are able to venture further afield but this will be at extra cost.
