Postpartum exercise - when and the way how

January 22nd, 2011

Hello, this is Anne from www.postpartumexercise.net

These two and lots of other questions probably have every new mom

I remember having TONS of questions…

Because, after delivery, it takes a while to get used to our new life with that child.

We learn to care for the small person who is totally dependent on us. As we do, we must also learn how to take care of ourselves as mothers.

We may think our body after delivery as looking and feeling very different than it was before. We may be concerned to try to “back to normal”, or we may not feel ready to exercise the way we did before.

The next advice can help new mothers who may have questions about how to stay fit and feel good:

Just when was safe to begin with exercising?

In general, it is suggested to wait until three weeks after a vaginal birth and six weeks after a Cesarean birth. Of course, it all depends on how your body feels.

Which exercises a new mom can do first

After a few days of giving birth, you can start exercising with kegels, by contracting the muscles around the vaginal opening.

A week or two after giving birth, taking some short walks will be healthy.

How longcan ittake tolosethe excess weight that I gained during pregnancy?

This depends on how much weight was gained, mothers metabolism, physical activity and whether you are breastfeeding or not, ( breastfeeding uses almost one-third of our caloric intake)

Before I was pregnant, I regulary attended a vigorous exercise class. When can I return to class?

For vigorous exercise, you will probably have to wait until your baby is about 3 months old.

I’m finding that with a new baby, it is really difficult to find the time to exercise. What do you suggest for the new routine?

Maybe a naptime can be an opportunity to work out, or new mom can incorporate baby in dailly routine by walking with a stroller or whilw wearing a baby
